2 Year Blog Birthday & a Dehydrator Give Away!

It’s my blog’s 2nd birthday so it’s time to celebrate with a give away!

2yrbday

Can you believe that my Sugar-Free Mom blog has been around for 2 years already?? Yes, exactly 2 years ago today on October 21, 2011 I launched my website! Blessed beyond measure by the growth and support we’ve received from all of you! To show my appreciation I’m giving away a favorite kitchen gadget that I love!!!

Who wants a new dehydrator??? Dehydrators are perfect for making healthy dried fruit snacks for the family. The hubby also likes to make jerky with it as well. Whatever you decide to dehydrate you will not be disappointed!

Here’s mine in action making apple chips!!

dehydrator1

We’ve dried pears and apples but you can really dry whatever you like. It comes with a great book to tell you all about how to use it.

My kids can’t get enough of these so it’s a good thing this dehydrator has about 6 or 7 shelves to hold a whole lot of apple slices!

dehydrator3

Don’t be alarmed that it says beef jerky on the box. My hubby bought two brand new and kept one in the box unused specifically for my blog’s birthday to give away to one of you!

  1. I do not have a dehydrator right now and this would be amazing to try all the fruits, meats (I like jerkey too!) and other items. I am learning so much about real foods and how to serve, cook, etc. This would add to my list of new items and help me stay on the right path! Happy Anniversary sugarfreemom.com!

  2. What a flashback to childhood! Possibilities are endless. Love dried cherries, pineapple, apples, jerky and I’m sure so much more I’m unaware of. Thank you and congrats on 2 yes in the blog world. 🙂

  3. Ooh I would love to win this,I’ve been wanting one for such a while, but they are pricey 🙁 please pick me 🙂

  4. I am new to all this, but think the apple chips would be great to start with, thinking price wise, and then try new things using the sites I am checking out for fresh ideas, I always return to this one.

  7. Whoop whoop! Love to have the chance to win this dehydrator! Kale chips, fruit leather, herbs, and venison would fill this machine. 😉

  8. This would be perfect to make healthy snacks for my family. I would even use it to make beef jerky since it can be expensive in the stores. Since I’m limited on what I can eat this would be great. Pick me!

  9. I would love to have one because we have 6 Siberian Husky’s and want to start to dry there meat/veggie snacks to enjoy a good treat. For us the fruity snacks. I love mushrooms and when they on sale bay some more to dry and have a good meal later

  10. We grow several types of fruit trees. I would love to be able to dry the fruit for later use. Thanks for all of the great recipes!!

  11. Well I am retired and was able to start my sustainable life style with my fun chickens and gardens, this year I took out a hedge in front and planted corn, sqash and tomatoes. Also planted 4 fruit trees, rhubarb, raspberries and blueberries. Have a raised garden bed going full force with carrots, parsnips and herbs still giving me food (had a wonderful crop of green beans and peas earlier of course) . I just planted garlic this wk to see how it will do (if I can keep the chickens out of the straw) Such fun I am having BUT I would like to have more ways of preserving both fruit and veggies as dried veggies are good for crock pot meals and soups and my grand children love fruit leather and dried fruits of any kind so far. Now have 2 great grannies so hoping to get them all more interested in natural ways of living!!

  12. Hi, I would like to experiment and learn new healthy ways to dehydrate fruits. I would like to try apples, strawberries, pineapples. I would also like to make potpourri.

  13. I want to make fruits and veggies so my kids will eat them. My oldest son who is 9 yrs old will barely eat fruits and NO veggies. pediatrician said his cholesterol was a bit high. No way I would put him on meds and have to get him moving on right track!

  14. I would dehydrate, Strawberries, Banana’s, Oranges, Pineapple’s. I’d like to make my Energy Trail Mix. Plus I could also add it to my cereal in the mornings.
My Daughter enjoy Dehydrated fruits too. I like homemade Jerky.

  15. I think this dehydrator would be in constant use in this house! We are a family of 7, myself, my husband & our 3 teens as well as my teenaged nephew and my sister-in-law. Feeding a family this size whole, real, healthy food can get VERY expensive. My mother (as was her mother) is a type 1 diabetic, and and since having my first child I have struggled to maintain a healthy weight. Given our health risks and the prevalence of obesity that runs in our family I am deeply committed to making sure we eat as healthy as possible. I make just about all our food from scratch. Everything from our baked goods & snacks to nut butters & almond milk, and I am fanatical about keeping white flour, white starches, and refined sugars out of our diets. Thus far I only use dried fruits on occasion mainly because they are SO expensive to purchase and making them in the oven can be so time consuming. However we all LOVE them and I would love to use them much more in my recipes.

As far as what I will make with the dehydrator if I were to win: basic dried fruit for snacking of course (apple chips, banana chips, pear chips, berries etc) as well as to flavor oatmeal and baked goods. Also, I would love to try making my own fruit leather! Kale chips are a staple in our house and I’d love to be able to make them in bulk and package them for kids lunches & such. I recently read about salmon jerky, and we LOVE fish so any additional way to get this superfood into our diet is perfect. To be able to dry and can summer sweet tomatoes, a dream come true!! I love cooking and experimenting with recipes. I super passionate about making sure my family fills their bodies with nourishing healthy food and I would love to add a dehydrator to my kitchen arsenal 🙂

  16. I would love to make apple chips…i just gleened a ton of apples. Also, fruit leather would be awesome! Yum!
