Traditional Chicken Marsala made simple in the slow cooker!
I can't think of an easier meal than one made in the crock pot. Whether you have children or not the slow cooker is a Godsend in my opinion!
When you have the right recipe with the perfect amount of liquids and ingredients you can make some magic in the crock pot!
But it must all begin with the perfect recipe.
Have you had high hopes of a fabulous dinner waiting for you when you get home from work only to discover the food is dry and unappetizing?
I've had that happen one too many times so I've become an expert in what it takes to make a recipe work well in the crock pot and as always I would never share it if it wasn't a picky family approved winner!
Making sure you have enough liquids is the key. Whether it be wine like in this recipe or water or broth, if you don't have enough you are in trouble my friend.
With all my crock pot recipes you can be certain they will be amazing.
Just make sure that the crock pot is not only turned to the correct setting, but is PLUGGED in! I've had that happen and it is very, very sad! Came home to what I thought would be fabulous smells of pork tenderloin cooking in my crock pot only to discover I never plugged it in, all day. Salvageable, nope. Complete defeat to say the least.
I've got a few delicious winners in my New Cookbook, like Crock Pot Barbecue Pulled Pork, Crock Pot Shredded Chicken Fajitas, and Lightened Up Chicken Herb Stroganoff!

Does this really take 6 pounds of chicken? Seems like a lot! Just wanted to be sure before I do my grocery shopping. Thanks!
Brenda
I does, I first made it for a big party. You could certainly just cut everything in half although it freezes well too.
Sarah
Marsala is not at all sugar free. The wine has 4g of sugar for 2!! Tablespoons. Yikes!!
Kris johnson
if you used the chicken broth you would eliminate the sugar.
Karen
I've made this yummy dish before. Your recipe is a liitle different than mine but sounds delish!! I will try it. I also make crock pot amaretto chicken. SOOO good but you have to like a little almond flavor to like this dish! 🙂

I made this recipe this afternoon! It tastes great! However, is the sauce supposed to be more like a gravy? Mine is very thin almost watery. I followed the instructions to a tee. I used chicken broth and cornstarch because I couldn't find Marsala wine. It didn't seem like mine thickened at all. Any advice?
Cindy
After the chicken cooked on low for about 6 hours, I poured the sauce into a sauce pan and added 1/2 cup cold water and 2tbsp flour and cooked it, while whisking, on high for a few minutes. Then I returned it to the crockpot with chicken and mushrooms to finish cooking. **Side Note: whisk the water and flour together first and then pour into marsala sauce and continue whisking while sauce is on high heat for a few minutes. It will thicken up quickly!! Also, I used frozen chicken breasts.

Hello Brenda,
I was looking for a good recipe for Chicken Marsala in a crock pot and your website came up!
Quick question, if you are making this recipe for children and adults and you would like it to have the taste of the marsala but not too much, can you do half marsala and half chicken broth?
Brenda
I'm sure that would be fine.
Regina
After you cook the chicken (on low of 7 or high for 3) and then add the thickening ingredients the recipe says to cook it for one more hour. Do you mean one more hour on high or one more hour on low?
Brenda
On low is good.
Kathleen
When you say to slice the chicken lengthwise, are you saying to slice down the center lengthwise or slice in half the depth of the chicken breast so they are thinner pieces?
Brenda
I sliced so they are thinner pieces, down the full length of the breast.
Kathleen
Can you use other mushrooms? I cannot find baby Portobello mushrooms. If so, would any mushroom work?
Brenda
Sure any mushrooms would work just fine.
Todd
I made this tonight, Tasted great but I still tasted the alcohol after cooking for 5 hours. I'd recommend boiling the marsal for 5-10 min to burn the alcohol off before adding to the croc pot. I used corn starch instead of arrowroot and I worked just as well. T

This looks wonderful! Can it be made with frozen chicken breasts, or should they be thawed?
Brenda
No they should be thawed.
Nutmeg Nanny
This looks so comforting and cozy. It's so cold here today I just want ot curl up into a ball and fall asleep. I wish I had this for tonight!

I like that you use arrowhead here. I wouldn't think of it. & crockpot, I must get one. The chicken marsala looks wonderful here.

Ugh! I actually made a crockpot meal once, came home fully expecting to have a delicious stew waiting for me and it was awful. Just awful!! But I'm a tenacious one, and my next meal was indeed delicious. This recipe is a must try! My mouth is watering.

Oh my gosh, that would be the most horrible feeling EVER to walk in the house and not be greeted by that comforting smell you expected. I would triple-check mine if I put this in there, because it sounds so ridiculously good. I love Chicken Marsala, but never thought to make it in the crockpot. Happening!
April
This sounds wonderfully delicious! Not to sound like a nudge but are all your recipes for so many people? We're just a husband and wife and don't need so much food. I would have to take this recipe and divide it in half and then by half once again.
Brenda
I was making it for a Christmas party crowd and it all went! Just reduce by half because you could freeze it all ready cooked and thaw the night before you want it again.
Kris johnson
great idea...love freezer meals...this would be so simple
Erin@TexanerinBaking
Oh my gosh. Coming home, expecting to find a delicious ready-to-eat meal, only to find rotten meat must be AWFUL. And this looks great! I love marsala. 🙂
Kate @ Diethood
This is in my top 5 favorite meals!! I LOVE IT! My crock pot and I are like *THIS*! I use it 4 times a week and couldn't be happier. 🙂

I am all about the crock pot these days! Definitely can't wait to make this!
Lauren@HealthyDelicious
I'm sitting here shivering under a blanket right now and totally dreading getting up to cook dinner. I wish I had this in the crockpot! It looks so warm and cozy and comforting (and delicious!)
Ashley @ Wishes & Dishes
I am so trying this!! I don't have the arrowroot powder but I do have cornstarch.
Cookin Canuck
I've been using my crockpot more and more and, honestly, I'm wondering what took me so long! This is a recipe I need to try.
The Food Hunter
I want to make this ASAP
Martha @ A Family Feast
I totally agree - crockpots are a godsend!

What is arrowroot powder and is there a sub. for it?
Brenda
Works exactly like cornstarch but not made with corn.
Michelle
Can I suggest xanthan gum to lower the carb count. It is 0 net carbs due to the fiber count is the same as the carb count.
Brenda
great idea!
Layla
If I sub corn starch or xanthan gum for the arrowroot, do I need to use the half cup or will less work? That seems like an awful lot, so I wanted to double check. Thanks!
Brenda
corn starch would be the same amount but xanthan gum would be maybe just 1 tbsp, just giving a guess here as I have not tried that substitution.
jenna
If you use cornstarch please don't use 1/2 cup. I used less than 1/4 cup and the sauce was way to thick. I would suggest using 2-3 tablespoons of cornstarch to start, you can always add more if you want a thicker sauce
Molly
I agree a 1/2 cup arrowroot powder was WAY too much. The sauce is like gravy. I will give it another attempt and start with less.
