Cocoa Steel Cut Oats in the crock pot!! Is it dessert or breakfast?? Totally your call. Make it anytime you need to calm a chocolate fix. Oats are hearty, healthy and satisfying!
Made the night before and cooks slowly in the slow cooker or crock pot for 8 hours. Creamy, chocolatey and smells amazing! Stir when you wake and enjoy a hearty breakfast!
Top with honey or add sweetener of your choice, add some chopped nuts and enjoy your warm and ready breakfast in the morning.
You can also top with a little plain Greek yogurt if you're enjoying it cold from the fridge like a rice pudding snack.

Does this keep and reheat well? I would be the only one that would eat it... so I am thinking it could do for a weeks worth of breakfasts for me.
Brenda
I've kept it for a few days in the fridge and it reheated fine, you can also add some warm milk if it gets too thick after reheating.
Michelle
THanks!
Paula

What do you think about adding a mashed up banana or 2 to the crockpot to add in a little sweetness and up the nutrient value??
leslie
can i use old fashion oats?
Brenda
The ratio of water to steel cut is different so using rolled oats here would not work. Check the other recipes I linked to using regular rolled oats in the crock pot.

How about adding a 1/2 cup Coconut and they would be like no-bake cookies without added sugar, except for what is in the coconut.
Nicole
Is there a specific reason to cook them overnight? Do they require 8 hours? They sound yummy and I would love to make them for breakfast! I was asking because we live off grid and do not have crockpot capabilities.
Brenda
The reason is to have a warm breakfast ready for you in the morning. I believe you can certainly cook them on the stove top but will read to presoak them the night before. Instructions would be on the container you purchase to cook on the stove.
Arica
Did you have to presoak the oats before you cooked them in the crockpot?
Brenda
I did not presoak them.
