Who doesn't love a good fry? Who doesn't love a healthier fry that still tastes delicious yet NOT fried and is a super food?!! Yep! Sweet potatoes are considered one of 10 Super foods to eat to maintain optimal health according to Diabetes.org.
Sweet potatoes are full of fiber and high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, beta carotene, potassium and calcium! If that's not enough to eat one I don't know what is!
You can enjoy them baked or even mashed but my family enjoys them more when then can pick them up with their little fingers! My kiddies enjoyed my Easy Baked Sweet potatoes which are round, sliced, like chips. Now they love these fries and can't get enough of them. I never have any left overs when I make these!
Slice them as thin as you like or even make them like steak fries and a bit larger. The thinner for my kids the better!
Mix up the seasoning mixture with some oil, toss them in a bowl, lay them on a baking sheet and bake, so simple! In order to use less oil than necessary I use nonstick cooking spray or olive oil cooking spray, whichever you have on hand. Spraying them lighter before cooking, then once more when turning them over, really seals in that seasoning mixture well.
You can make individual servings in a small glass making a cone out of parchment paper. Perfect for small hands to enjoy! Easy for party entertaining as well and just prettier than plopping them in a bowl don't you think?

YUM-O is all I can say with this picture!!
Don't you wish you could grab one of those babies right through the computer screen? I do .....but of course I have none left, my kids ate them up!
Healthy Baked Sweet Potato Fries
[sc:Ziplist]
Ingredients
- 6 small sweet potatoes (about 2 pounds) , peeled, quartered and sliced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- nonstick cooking spray
Directions
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. In a small bowl pour the oil and stir all the seasonings into the oil. In a large bowl place the sliced sweet potatoes. Pour the seasoning mixture over the potatoes and using tongs or your hands try to evenly mix and coat the sweet potatoes. Spray a large baking sheet (you may need 2 baking sheets) with cooking spray. Lay the sweet potatoes on the baking sheet, do not overlap. Use the cooking spray to lightly coat over the sweet potatoes. Bake for 10 minutes, turn them, spray with cooking spray again and bake 10 more minutes until tender. Cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Just made our first attempt at sweet potato fries - oven baked. We modified it somewhat. -- used coconut oil spray, flaked sea salt, cinnamon and sprinkled a very small amount brown sugar mix (of half erythritol and half light brown sugar) we like after the baking was done. (We realize that the use of any sugar is not encouraged on this site, and hope that our idea doesn't lead anyone astray!). Delicious! Your proportions in the recipe were a good guideline for a newbie to this in general. And I think we may one day try the spices recommended in recipe.

I would like to add, that leaving the peel on the potatoes is the best thing to do.
There are multiple nutritional benefits to eating the peels of sweet potatoes.

Just tried these. Mine scorched a bit in the oven but not enough to take away from the the yummy flavor. Will definitely try again, but will reduce temperature a bit, next time.

What do the asterisks mean in the nutritional information?

These were great. I'm not very experienced in cooking so I have a question for those of you that are. They were really good but we both agreed they would be better if they were a little crispier. How would I go about doing that? Cook them longer? Broil?
Brenda
They won't ever be as crispy without frying, but you could try broiling for a minute or two.

I love sweet potato fries. How do you cut them? They are so hard I can never get nice fries.

Followed the recipe exactly and they turned out amazing! I'm a busy university student who's been spending all of her time in the library studying for finals so this is a delicious and quick meal that I'll be having for lunch and dinner today. Definitely beats campus food 🙂

Such a great idea. These look mighty tasty!

Just made these for lunch, and added some carrots because I didn't have enough sweet potatoes. Absolutely delicious. Would have eaten the whole batch if no one else in the house had smelt them cooking, and come sniffing around. 🙂
Brenda
So glad you liked them!

Hi! I'm a uni student so unfortunately, I don't have an oven in my tiny room. Is there any alternative to cooking in the oven? Like a frying pan or something else?
Heather
I love sweet potato fries!! I season mine with cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt. I am eager to try your spice combination, it looks yummy!
