If you're looking for a way to level up your next burger, this recipe for low carb keto French Dip Burgers is all you need!
LOW CARB KETO FRENCH DIP BURGERS
A French Dip Burger is a little twist on a traditional French Dip sandwich served with caramelized onions and Au Jus sauce to dip. Big bold flavors, a juicy burger topped with tasty onions, served on a toasted low carb sub roll.
The first time I ever tried a French Dip burger was at the Cheesecake factory. I had never even heard of it before. Since I've been keto for years, I swapped the roll they would have served it with, and asked for in to be wrapped in lettuce. It was amazing!
These would be perfect for the Super Bowl or any party for that matter! Great way to feed guests and customizable for all the non-low carb and/or keto friends as well!
What is Au Jus?
Au jus is a French word that means "in its own juice". It's a thin gravy to use as a dipping sauce for any meat dish or sandwich you like.
Is Au Jus Keto?
Traditional Au Jus is made using the drippings of the meat you are cooking, mixed with a few other ingredients, typically flour.
It is not keto friendly if the recipe calls for white flour. I'm not using any flour and it works just as good as a thin dipping sauce full of flavor, even without meat drippings.
How to Thicken Au Jus
If you'd like a thicken au jus as opposed to a thinner gravy, add the optional glucomannan after the broth has been warmed through. Continue to stir on low heat and it should thicken nicely.
Be careful not to use too much, a half teaspoon is enough, as you don't want a thick gravy if you want to be able to dip the sandwich into the sauce easily.
How to Make Keto French Dip Burgers
There are a few components to making keto French dip burgers, but it is worth the effort for a delicious, hearty low carb sandwich. You need to make some caramelized onions, Au jus sauce and my cloud bread sub rolls or a similar low carb roll you want to use.
Directions for Caramelized Onions
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and caramelized, about 15 minutes. Add the garlic, salt and pepper, cook another minute then remove from pan and set aside.
Directions for Burgers
Place the beef into a large bowl and mix together with the salt, pepper, chili, and mayonnaise. Divide the beef into 6 portions. Shape into a 6 inch long rectangular patty.Heat the oil in the same skillet used for the onions over high heat.
Once you see the oil shimmer, put the burgers in the pan and cook until browned on the bottom, about 4-5 minutes. Flip over and continue to cook until desired doneness. For medium, cook another 3-4 minutes.
If using optional gruyere cheese, place once slice over each burger at the last minute of cooking time. Cover, wait about 30 seconds, lift lid and check if cheese is melted, if not cover again for another 10-15 seconds.
How to Make Cloud Bread Sub Rolls
This recipe is my same recipe for my Cloud Bread Loaf, only I used a sub roll pan to divide the batter to make three, 12-inch long sub rolls.
I used this Sub Roll Mold and it worked really well! The only other difference is I added some sesame seeds over the top of each roll before baking. Same time in oven as well!
Do I have to Make The Burgers Long?
No you don't need to make the burgers 6 inches long or use my cloud bread sub rolls. The reason for the 6 inch long rectangular burger is to fit nicely into the 6 inch long sub roll.
You could just make these into standard burgers and use a low carb burger bun instead. Alternatively, you could also skip any roll and wrap the burger in lettuce.

Which bread do you use for the bergers?
Brenda
You can use either the dairy free cloud bread for sub rolls or use the orginial one with dairy, both work to make rolls.
