Mini Upside Down Chocolate Chip Steel Cut Oat “Cakes”

You must have known this was coming right?

After seeing my Mini Upside Down Fruity Steel Cut Oat “Cakes” you just had to know I would make something with chocolate in it didn’t you? Of course I had to!

My kiddies were overjoyed! I used grain sweetened chocolate chips but you could use whatever kind you like or make your own. Either way, this is a dessert versus a breakfast, but it is still a healthy option if you do allow your family to have a bit of chocolate in their breakfast oats!

This was by far the tastiest photo shoot EVER!

 Directions:

Follow the same recipe to make the fruity oat cakes using QUICK steel cut oats, but instead of fruit add 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips to the bottom of the dish….oh…..yes……!!!

  1. Is there anything that I can substitute for the banana? I love them but allergtic to them 🙁 and think I would enjoy this recipe.

    1. To replace the one banana, try mashing a pear or use pumpkin or even 1/4 cup more applesauce.

  2. With me being diabetic I would only be able to have this as a meal and that would be pushing it for me . With all that fiber are they pretty filling ? They look good though . I might try making mini ones for deserts instead.

    1. Oh this is definitely a meal in itself. Super filling! They are mini already in ramekins, unless you want them even smaller than that.

  3. made the fruit ones today, and they were very good. Will definitely try thi. Also thought the sugar free cherry pie filling would be good…like a cobbler for a change

    1. I’ve not tried it with canned filling, but if you do let me know how it works.

  4. I would like to know more about grain sweetened chocolate chips where to get them never heard about them untill i started following you and can not locate them on the internet either Thanks

    1. I found them at Whole Foods, but I don’t remember the name brand. I will have to get back to you on that sorry!

    2. The brand Sunspire makes grain-sweetened chocolate chips and a variety of other chocolate items (some grain-sweetened, some not). This is the only brand I have tried, but there may be others.
