Overnight Crock Pot Apple Oatmeal

Having a smaller crock pot is ideal for recipes like this one. Who wants to pull a giant crock pot out if you only need it for a small breakfast for yourself or hubby and you know you’re kids won’t eat it?

My little crock pot, which is a 3 quart one shown here, is one of my most favorite appliances! Hubby bought it for me a few years back and I thought he was crazy! I specifically remember thinking what in the world will I make in that! Yet this little gadget has surpassed my greatest expectations I tell you! To making this little yummy heavenly breakfast, to using in for sauces, dips, meatballs, even fondue for friends! I love it just as much, if not MORE, than my much larger crock pot that I use regularly. Of course if you don’t have a small crock pot your large version will work just the same, but I would suggest doubling the recipe.

This deliciousness is so fabulous you will have to control how much you eat! There’s about 4 servings in there but I caution you to measure out want you want, be it a 1/2 c or cup and don’t go back for more! You will most certainly be tempted. I would be greatly surprised if there is anyone out there who tries this recipe and is disappointed. Unless you truly hate oatmeal, well, then that is a different matter (heehee).

Everyone who is either watching their weight, trying to lose or even those who are not, we all  get into food ruts once in awhile. Eating the same thing either because its quick and easy or we haven’t shopped or we’re plain out of ideas for breakfast can cause us to subconsciously deter from our healthy eating plans later on in the day or week or weekend. So don’t let that happen and  try a new recipe once a week, at least on the weekend when you may have a bit more time to experiment.

Let me know how you like it!

UPDATE: Using your warm setting on your crock pot will allow the recipe to cook much longer and not burn or dry out. Mine went in the crock on warm last night at 9:30pm and I checked it at 7am and it was just perfect!

  1. Made this today….think 6 hours was too long, but the flavor was good. Omitted the honey and used pure maple syrup instead cause we put some in our baby bullet and gave to our 9 month old. She loved it too. Will try again cooking less time.

  2. I found your blog through Pinterest and Im so glad I did! I have a mini crock pot (that Ive never used) and I think this just might be a great reason to try it out!

  3. I have been looking at a lot of your recipes and find they are low in sugar ( which I need ) but I also have to watch my sodium intake…..Do you have any recipes that also list the sodium amounts in the recipe ? This would help me greatly….

    1. some of the older recipe when I first started blogging do not have the sodium in the nutrition info but all of the newer ones do. You can also plug in the ingredients into my fitness pal or nutrition data.com and find out the sodium in the recipe.

  4. I finally made this oatmeal. It tastes great and saves precious time in the morning. I think my mini crock pot is a munchkin. It only holds up to 20 ounces. It was enough but I don’t think it is 3 quarts.

  5. I read in your recipe “Overnight Banana Steel Cut Oats” people used a rice cooker adding more water in that recipe. Do you think this will work for this recipe as well? Doubling the amount of milk?

  6. Would coconut milk work? I’ve started using it in my coffee and I know it would change the taste (I’ve grown to like it!) but I’ve never cooked with it.

  7. So good! Making this a second time:

Did low for 2.5 hours – perfect !!!!!
I used organic rice milk – yum !!!!!

Will make this weekly now!!!! 🙂

  8. Hi
THis recipe sounds great, but have bad experience from proidge like breakfasts from before but will try it.. Question: can i use steel cut oats or Oat groats instead of the oald fasioned ones?

Thank you for all your reicpes.. really wonderful to a diabetic like me 🙂

  9. I had this for breakfast this morning! YUM! I read the suggestions and put my crockpot on the warm setting and it was perfect! My husband, daughter, friend, and I ALL really enjoyed it. I’m not a huge sugar free person, and was surprised that the honey was enough for the oatmeal. I will definitely be making this again and trying different flavor combinations. Can’t wait to try other things on your site!

  10. I absolutely love this recipe…..I double it , omit the butter and only cook it for 4 hours max. Enjoy <3

  11. Yummy….we love oatmeal in the morning. My youngest is allergic to nuts so we can’t use soy or almond….would rice milk work? I can’t wait to try this….great for husband too who is up and out the door before we even get up:)

    1. My boys are allergic to nuts and soy as well. I’m sure rice milk would work fine.

  12. I just recently did this almost exact recipe!! It came out of my crockpot slow cooker book , but it had 1/4 cup walnuts chopped optional at end too. :o) Unfortunately ….my burned and it was so sad. Too big of crockpot…I tried doubling the recipe so that there was more in there, but it burned…I couldn’t have been more disappointed…. :o/ going to try again. :o)

  13. I just have a large slow cooker, so I put a smaller ovenproof dish inside the slow cooker, I also cover with foil tightly, add a little more water than the recipe calls for and this prevents the oatmeal from drying out if you cook it longer.

  14. This oatmeal turned out amazingly delicious…. Although I only cooked it on low for about 2 hours than on warm the rest of the night. Maybe my crockpot is hotter than most. Either way, will be making often 🙂

  15. This looks great! I actually have everything I need to make this (including the little crock pot!) Found you at Comfy in the Kitchen! Thanks for sharing!

  16. I love my slow cooker! I never thought of using it for things like this, though. Now, I’ve got all sorts of ideas for yummy breakfast foods.
