Do you have a foodie bucket list? You know the one that might just be in your own mind, hoping to get to recipes you want to make healthier.

This list is ongoing in my head. I don’t actually have a foodie bucket list on paper but it’s always there, in the back of my mind.

When I see something that looks and sounds amazing, ย I get this urge and need to recreate it to make a healthier version.

For instance, take the classic TollHouse deep dish cookie pie as our example.

You have seen it. You may have even eaten it in the past.

But now you might be choosing to forgo sugar and carbs for a healthier way of life. And that’s why you are here on my website right?

No one wants to feel left out.

No one wants to feel like just because they are choosing to live a healthier way of life means no more chocolate or pie.

How terribly sad would that existence be?

NOT.FOR.ME. and not for you either!

I never want to feel deprived.

And I don’t. That’s why I do what I do!

There’s no cheating on my sugar free way of life because there’s no need to.

I never feel even the least bit upset not to eat typical traditional sugar filled desserts.

Why?

Because I can make them just as delicious at home and so can you!

And this is the case with this pie!

I’ve made this recipe 3 times before posting it with you today. I plan on making it every time we have company. Even guests who don’t live a sugar free lifestyle will devour this pie!

I’ve all ready tested it out on my 3 picky kids. My picky white sugar loving hubby and sister in law. As well as my kids friends who slept over during school vacation week.

They all at it up, even the very picky friend of my daughter who doesn’t eat much in real food.

Deprivation isn’t for anyone. There’s no need to ever feel like you are missing out on desserts.

And that is the difference between a life style and a diet, one sticks while the other is temporary.

  1. Hi,

Love your site, I have made a bunch of your pudding recipes and they were great and this is the next recipe I think I am going to tackle.. Can I replace the flax seed and gluten free flour with just AP flour? Also, by swerve sweetener did you mean the granulated swerve?

    Thanks!

Made this last night. It was decadent! Everyone loved it and it was so easy to make! I use a lot of your recipes. Especially if I’m looking for something new. We eat healthy and no sugar so you are my best resource! Thank you !

    1. Next time I’ll try it with the ice cream. We have to get an ice cream maker but we were dying to make them together! My boyfriend loves your site too now that he’s eating healthy and using stevia we make a lot of things together ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Hello, I just found your site and I’m thrilled! You get lots of sub.questions but I have one more. ๐Ÿ™‚
The only sweetener my son can have is stevia. Not a single one. We’ve been through the whole list, no fruit at all either! Do you have any ideas for replacing the swerve? Thanks so much!

    1. Maybe you could replace it with a baking blend made with stevia? Or try 1/4 cup more of flaxseed and use 1 teaspoon of pure stevia extract.

    2. Thanks so much. I’m gonna try the flax seed and let you know. The baking blends usually have xylitol or eritritol or innulin. All spelled wrong and all things he can’t have!

  4. Hi. I think the chocolate chip pie looks awesome. But I am not a gluten free gal. Can I substitute the flour with just all purpose flour and the sugar with stevia or honey? Thanks!

    1. Absolutely you can use the flour you like here. And honey can replace the sweetener here as well.

  5. I’m definitely going to try this recipe. I often substitute coconut sugar for the others because I really don’t care for Stevia. Don’t know if it will work here. I also try to avoid eggs and use vegan cream cheese and lemon as a substitute, again don’t know how it will work here. Finally……don’t gasp…..chocolate doesn’t like me (notice I didn’t say that I don’t like IT), so I will either use carob chips or half and half. So have I completely decimated the recipe?

    1. The carob chips for chocolate won’t matter at all. The coconut sugar could be subbed for the sweeteners I used you might need to increase it though since it’s not as sweet as stevia. You could use a flax egg perhaps. I don’t think the vegan cream cheese will matter. I’d love to hear if you try these subs and how it turns out for you!

    1. Nope I haven’t tried any other subs. I can’t use almond flour we have tree nut allergies at our house.

  6. Your right, deprivation gets you no where except fatter and more unhealthy than you were before you tried to cut a food out of your life. Beautiful recipe! Who couldn’t love this?!?

  7. You definitely aren’t missing any thing that you’re cutting out with this recipe. Decadent and delightful!!

  8. Looks delish!

I wonder if there is anyway to sub out some of the butter…I’ve heard of using avacado as a replacement in baking but not sure it would taste good…

    Suggestions?

    1. I would keep the butter, it would be dry, I tried it. Although not with avocado, may tint it green. You could try applesauce although it would increase the sugar and carbs.

  9. Can I use 2 parts almond flour and one part coconut flour as a flour substitute?

Maybe that would lower the carbs, but how would that affect the texture.

I love love your recipes and tell everyone about them.

    Maria. โ˜บ

    1. I would not use coconut flour here at all, need many more eggs to keep it from becoming hard as a rock. I can’t experiment with almond flour because my youngest has a tree nut allergy. Please let me know if you try it though.

  10. For any of your recipes that you use gluten free flour in, am I able to use white whole wheat flour/unbleached AP flour in the same measurements?
